CL0521 Heracles and the hind. Bronze. Hellenistic, ca. 2nd century BC. Height: 5cm; Condition: Excellent. Wonderful even thick green patina. A master bronze figurine of Heracles with inlaid silver eyes capturing the Ceryneian hind whose hooves were of bronze and his horns of gold, his 3rd labour. It could have been a miniature copy or perahps a trial model of a monumental statue to be set possibly in the gable of a building. Provenance: Old German private collection. |
