Villanova impasto pottery was produced during the Iron Age Period in Italy. Impasto clay was the forerunner of the Etruscan bucchero and has a highly burnished surface. Our Kyathos with an almost black shiny surface is a high quality, hand- crafted product thrown on the wheel by a skillful potter.

Cf. an almost identical example is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Condition: Very good and complete. Slightly restored at the rim.
